What's your Pick: CrankBrothers shoes and pedals
Why: Back when I was a grom still racing downhill I needed I needed a set of pedals that could stand up to the abuse of racing at a national level and smashing park laps every weekend in between. Where better to look to than the rider on the top steps of almost every world cup of the year 2019 (and almost every year since) Loic Bruni. His personal choice and signature model was the Crankbrothers Mallet DH and that was all I needed to make my choice.
I've been running the same pedals ever since with them now installed on my trail bike rather than the DH rig and in addition bought the Candy and Mallet TR for my XC and gravel bike repectively. All 3 pedals use the same 4 sided clip in mechanism so that satisfying kick down to clip in works on them all, The Candy and Mallet TR are great for xc, gravel and trail use but my absolute favourite is the Mallet DH with it's large concave design it give a feeling as close to flat pedals as you can get while securely clipped in.
I originally ran the Mallets with the RideConcepts Transition shoes as they were supplied by my sponsor at the time and they were awesome, but when they were eventually in need of replacement I decided to give the Crankbrothers shoes a go. Crankbrothers shoes pair with their respective pedals using the match system which just elevates that secure feeling on the pedal. The shoes themselves are super comfortable and available in a range of models with Lace, Speedlace and Boa options. As a combo they just work and do a damn good job of it.
