The Bike That Might Change The Conversation
I've spent the last few weeks riding the new X-LAB AD9. Having recently come off bikes such as the Cervélo S5 and Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8, I was curious to see how a relatively unknown brand would stack up.
The AD9 is stable, confidence-inspiring, climbs well, descends beautifully and simply gets on with the job of being a very good bike.
What makes the story more interesting is what sits behind it. XDS has spent over 30 years manufacturing bikes and now finds itself winning stages at the Giro d'Italia while bringing products to market at price points that challenge many of the industry's traditional assumptions.
Is this the beginning of a major shift in cycling?
I've shared my early thoughts, observations and questions in a long-form review below.
